Tolls Harm Taxpayers
Any new toll – like the proposed tolls along the Mobile River Bridge and the George C. Wallace Tunnel – are taxes on motorists and businesses.
The toll for the George C. Wallace Tunnel is particularly egregious. Rather than simply toll the new bridge, ALDOT intends to place a toll on the Wallace Tunnel to FORCE Alabama drivers to pay whatever private tolling corporation is awarded the project. Placing a toll on existing infrastructure is double taxation.
Tolls are just more wasteful taxes. Did you know?
Illinois State Toll Highway Authority spends more than $200 million on administrative costs.
The New York Thruway Authority spends more than $270 million on administrative costs.
The New Jersey Turnpike Authority spends more than $300 million on administrative costs.
Alabama doesn’t need to waste millions on a tolling bureaucracy. Building new tolls for I-10 would be a violation of public responsibility for Alabamians.
